Q: I attached an external hard drive to my WHS and this drive is not shown under the Destination drop-down for my Local Job. Instead I get 'Backup Device Unavailable'. How do I resolve this issue?
A: The cause to this issue is most likely because your external hard drive is added to your WHS Storage. If your external hard drive is added to your WHS Storage, you will not be able to use this same external hard drive with KeepVault. You can remove this drive from your Server Storage and then you will be able to use the drive with KeepVault. Here is what you can do:
• This is what you will see in KeepVault when your external hard drive is added to your Server Storage on your WHS:
• To verify your external hard drive is in fact added to your Server Storage, click the Server Storage tab from the top.
• Looking at your Server Storage from above, check the Status of the external hard drive in question. If the Status shows as Healthy, this means the drive is added to your Server Storage and cannot be used by KeepVault.
• If you want to use the external hard drive with KeepVault, you can select the drive from the Server Storage tab and select Remove.
NOTE: When removing drives from your Server Storage, you will need to have enough combined space from your remaining hard drives in order to remove. |
